It´s been 100 years since the >General Nursing Council opened the official register for nursing and midwifery professionals. There are now over 732,000 nurses, midwives and nursing associates on the NMC register.
Andrea Sutcliffe (r.), NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, wrote a blog for the ´Nursing Times´. She reflected on why we should keep challenging ourselves as a regulator and how we can promote high professional standards and public confidence in the professions. She talks about the need for legislative reform, protected titles for nurses, and making sure everything we do is rooted in fairness.
